If someone wanted to listen to the music from the year 1975 and only 1975 (and not the band The 1975), boom, they could find at least 10 different playlists for precisely that curated by actual human beings, with interesting and unique choices made by those playlist curators. While artists may not have been uniformly thrilled with those streaming royalties, whatever Spotify offered was better than nothing, and the end result for the audience was like nothing they had experienced before. Spotify effectively married the appeal of a voluminous (albeit often pirated) peer-to-peer music library like Napster with the mixtape culture that has been a part of music fandom back to the cassette. Lost in this debate heated by the flame of its own dumpster fire is that no one, Spotify included, is talking about the company’s killer feature, what made it so popular in the first place: leveraging the cloud and the information listeners put into that cloud to create a better and more specialized music-listening experience for its users. Maybe this is an opportunity for Spotify to reclaim that value proposition. It chased what must have seemed like an easy user acquisition play in the highly lucrative bro market at the cost of not only cultural blowback, but also neglect of its primary value proposition. Now it has flown a bit too close to the sun. It wasn’t enough that Spotify changed how we listen to music, it had to change how we consume everything audio. The man was a stand-up comedian first, after all, a line of work that lends itself to easy cancellation (as witnessed by fellow tradeswoman Whoopi Goldberg).Ĭaught up in its ambitious and now possibly tragic goal of becoming, with apologies to pre-Rogan lightning rod Howard Stern, the king of all audio media, Spotify’s biggest mistake was going all-in on podcasts and chasing a market it apparently didn’t yet fully understand. The pressure on Rogan and Spotify intensified last weekend over Rogan’s repeated use of a racial slur, along with a few other inflammatory statements that cannot simply be dismissed with the counterargument of “context.” If that isn’t enough for Spotify to eat whatever money is needed to ditch Rogan, then surely the risk that other offensive material will be found in the archives of Rogan’s podcast or comedic output should be. The Zoomers don’t care and are scrolling through TikTok. Powerful millennials Daniel Ek and Taylor Swift, despite pleas from all corners, have opted for nonintervention when either could end the business scandal of the day whenever they wanted. He comes off as an inquisitive and nonconfrontational, but also politically incorrect, slacker-wing personality involuntarily thrust into the role of culture warrior when he would rather be doing MMA, DMT, or some other acronymic pursuit. The all-ages battle royale kicked off with Boomers Neil Young and Joni Mitchell utilizing that most 1960s form of mobilization and persuasion-boycott and protest-to try and get Spotify to deplatform Rogan. Check out Joe’s announcement below. Also unfortunately for Spotify, the controversy is tailor-made for generational division. Small segments will still be posted to Youtube, but full episodes will only be available on Spotify. While some are worried that the deal with the behemoth streaming company might stifle the refreshingly unfiltered creativity of the show and its discussions, Joe Rogan has stated, “They want me to just continue doing it the way I’m doing it right now… It’s just a licensing deal, so Spotify won’t have any creative control over the show.” This move will go into effect on September 1st, 2020. According to The Wall Street Journal, the deal is reported to be worth more than $100 million. Rogan himself.įor the past couple years, YouTube and Apple Music have been the main homesteads of the Joe Rogan Experience, but this morning, the actor, comedian, and MMA host have signed a massive deal with Spotify to move the podcast exclusively to the increasingly diverse streaming platform. Guests ranging from celebrities like Elon Musk to musicians like deadmau5, to field experts like astrophysicist Adam Frank, all share fantastic discussions of experiences, accomplishments, and insights, all led in a remarkably fluent and digestible manner by Mr. I personally am not a big fan of podcasts, and even I regularly listen to the raw, unfiltered, yet highly informed and knowledgeable discussions between the accomplished Joe Rogan and any one of the hundreds of diverse and unique guests he has on his show. If you haven’t listened to the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, you are very much missing out.

When I select spells in the character builder, then open the add spells section there is a red circle with an exclamation point in it. I have added cleric spells, which are all known (which is contributing to this problem) at half level progression to a monk. I change my option to 'Death Domain' then it changes to 'False Life' and 'Ray of Sickness.' There was no selection drop down needed, how do I replicate this behavior?Īlso since I have gone on this deep dive I also am experiencing an issue adding spells to another class. I select 'Arcana Domain' and the spells 'Detect Magic' and 'Magic Missile' automatically appear in the prepared section under spells. I want to just assign spells at a given level, again using the cleric as the example, like the domain spells. I also have not been able to grant specific spells without a drop down. This behavior is what I am trying to replicate. If I change my option to 'Death Domain' then the 'Arcane Initiate' feature disappears and a new feature 'Reaper' is now available. Any of the choices under a feature are options.įor the Cleric feature 'Divine Domain' you pick an option like 'Arcana Domain' or 'Death Domain.' When I have selected the 'Arcana Domain' option a new class feature 'Arcane Initiate' appears. I am calling things that appear under the top level of class features, the ones with the green plus or minus sign in the character builder, class features. So I'll be using the Cleric and selecting a domain as the example again. Maybe I'm using the terminology incorrectly so I'm gonna over-explain a bit to make sure I am not making an incorrect assumption. I tried to attach pictures but I can't, so hopefully I can explain myself a little better. Okay, I'm not sure I can do what I want then, but I want to make sure. For the most reliable primary backup, and also for more functionality from your backup, we recommend that you procure a USB or Thunderbolt hard drive and create a backup on that locally-attached disk. But we also recommend using NAS backups only as a secondary option for a subset of your most important data. We specifically present this direct-to-NAS functionality in contrast to the inflexibility that Time Machine offers. You can select a NAS volume, or a folder on a NAS volume as the destination to a CCC backup task. You see that with Time Machine too - there are countless reports of "The (Time Machine) backup is corrupt, it needs to be recreated" on the Internet, and most of those would trace back to corruption of the disk image. NAS-hosted disk images are very sensitive to network connectivity loss, and that fragility eventually leads to corruption of the disk image. You could certainly configure CCC to back up to a disk image on a NAS volume too - choose "New Disk Image." in CCC's Destination selector to set that up.īut we don't recommend that, in fact we explicitly discourage it. When making a backup to a network volume, Time Machine backs up to a disk image. The wall and fly fabric is a 68D Poly 1200mm while the mesh is a 40D tight-weave mesh. The clips, poles, zippers, stitching and waterproofing are all very good. Overall, the fit and finish is very good. Once it rains, you’ll appreciate the extra space to stow your shoes and other gear out of the rain (and not inside your sleeping area). If you’re camping in fantastic weather, this isn’t a big deal. We’re fans of the full-coverage rainfly with built-in vestibules.Ĭheaper dome tents often skimp out by eliminating vestibules altogether. or even rollup part of the vestibule so that you can see out. Third, if you’re stuck in camp during a downpour, you can open the interior doors for extra space. Second, on hot nights, you can roll back each vestibule, leaving both open so that you can get a cooling cross breeze through the door mesh. We’re also big fans of two doors and vestibules in most tents - for three reasons.įirst, having two doors makes it easier to enter and exit when you’re sleeping with fellow campers. Kelty uses a full-coverage rainfly, which we appreciate any time we’re camping in bad weather. It’s all very intuitive and easy to setup. Once the X-poles are up, the ridge pole clips in over the top, aligned with each door. Alternately, you could clip the top of the tent to the top of the poles first on the ground and then lift it with the poles, but I rarely bother doing it this way. This makes clipping the tent body to the poles a bit easier. Once both poles are inserted, they’ll stand up on their own. The Quick-Corner system uses short sleeves at each corner. It won’t necessarily stand on its own, but the bottoms won’t pop out while you’re working on the next diagonal. When you insert a pole in one end and bend it into the corresponding sleeve at the diagonal, the pole will stay in place. How does it work?īasically, Kelty uses a short sleeve for the poles at each corner. To make setup even faster and easier, Kelty has developed a new pole-and-tent system called Quick-Corner Technology. Shop ‘Tents & Shelters’ from Kelty direct and FREE shipping on orders over $49! For extra support for the rain fly and vestibules - and to make the interior roomier - a third fiberglass pole spans the top of the tent. The core of the pole structure comes from two sets of shock-corded fiberglass poles that X-cross over the top of the tent. Ultimately, the price-to-value ratio is excellent. It comes in at a midrange price point for tents of this style - a bit more than truly cheap competitors and a bit less than more expensive tents that use aluminum poles and ultralight material. The Kelty Wireless 4 is basically a well-made tent built with a proven dome-style design. So what about the Wireless 4 Tent in particular? The Kelty Wireless tent series uses an easy-to-setup cross-pole dome-style structure. The key to Kelty’s new Wireless series is to leave it all behind when you get outdoors: “Sometimes you have to disconnect to connect,” Kelty says. My first question about the new tent series was, “Why ‘Wireless’ in the name?” It got me thinking about WiFi and cell phones - but I was overthinking it. They all have the same core two-door, tried-and-true dome-style design. Kelty makes three versions of its new Wireless Tent series, a 2-, 4- and 6-person version. After testing and reviewing the Wireless 4 Tent while camping, this is what we learned: Kelty Wireless Tents To get us a closer look, Kelty sent Man Makes Fire a review unit. The Kelty Wireless 4 Tent is a freestanding 2-door car camping tent with two vestibules and a full-coverage rainfly.
